Resistance and Ratio

This testing is important information to know when a transformer is new. It becomes even more important through the life of an aging transformer. Baseline information assists with identifying potential problems with the new transformer before it becomes energized and put under load. The resistance of the winding material can identify potential problems with conductors and insulation media. Turns ratio testing will identify if the transformer was wound properly and what values the different voltage taps will produce when selected.
