Power Factor Dissipation
Power Factor Dissipation
Insulation power factor (or dissipation factor) tests are used to measure dielectric losses in the transformer insulation media. Results from the testing indicate the wetness, dryness or deterioration of transformer insulation. Typically, this testing is performed at the factory and the field prior to energization. The results of overall power factor tests on power transformers reflect the insulation condition of the windings, barriers, tap changers, bushings and insulating oil. It’s critical to perform this testing periodically throughout the life of an oil filled transformer.
