Transformers
Transformer Services
To the untrained eye, they seem to be a big grey metal box with wires going in and out of them, but there is a lot more to transformers than meets the eye. Transformers such as, Power Transformers and Voltage Transformers, like all electrical equipment, have a design life which can be shortened, or improved depending upon a number of different factors. Routine maintenance of transformers, including cleaning, oil analysis and other testing can help improve reliability and avoid potential failures. Southwest Energy Systems, LLC field technicians and engineers are trained on all aspects of testing and maintaining transformers using recognized standards such as NETA, ANSI, IEEE and others. Transformer services include the following:
Transformers are an integral part of every facility. Most people know they are there, but when was the last time it was checked, tested or maintained? Did you know that a small amount of moisture in your transformer oil can substantially decrease its life? Did you know that if there are leaks in your transformer, you probably have moisture issues as well? Industry standards recommend, just like many electrical components, that regular maintenance be performed on transformers. Those tests can include regular oil testing, cleaning of electrical components, testing fans and thermal sensors and other protective devices. Other testing can include power/dissipation factor, transformer turns ratio (TTR) and winding resistance predictive and preventative measurements.
