In electrical circuits,  ground or earth is typically the reference point from which other voltages are measured, serves as a common return path to the earth and is integral to the proper function of all electrical systems.  Many problems in electrical devices are often misdiagnosed as harmonics or other problems, when they actually turn out to be nothing more than a bad equipment ground or a ground conductor with a high resistance to earth.  Grounding is considered to be one of the most common problems with electrical systems and the most misunderstood.
